Function |
Ethanolamine phosphate transferase involved in glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor biosynthesis. Transfers ethanolamine phosphate to the GPI third mannose which links the GPI-anchor to the C-terminus of the proteins by an amide bond (By similarity).
Summary |
This gene encodes a protein that is involved inglycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor biosynthesis. TheGPI-anchor is a glycolipid which contains three mannose moleculesin its core backbone. The GPI-anchor is found on many blood cellsand serves to anchor proteins to the cell surface. This protein isinvolved in the transfer of ethanolaminephosphate (EtNP) to thethird mannose in GPI. At least two alternatively splicedtranscripts encoding distinct isoforms have been found for thisgene.
