Function |
Accelerates programmed cell death. Association to the apoptosis repressors Bcl-X(L), BHRF1, Bcl-2 or its adenovirus homolog E1B 19k protein suppresses this death-promoting activity. Does not interact with BAX.

Summary |
BIK is a member of Pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins. Altho μgh Bik lacks Bcl-2 homologus region, BH1 and BH2, BIK interacts with Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL. BIK has been shown to induce apoptosis by activating caspase-9.
