Proteolytic enzyme possibly involved in normal cellular protein degradation and turnover.
Summary |
The protein encoded by the gene is a cysteine proteinaseand a member of the papain superfamily. This proteolytic enzyme isinvolved in cellular protein degradation and turnover. Therecombinant form of this enzyme was shown to degrade syntheticpeptides typically used as substrates for cysteine proteinases andits proteolytic activity was abolished by an inhibitor of cyteineproteinase.
