Ubiquitination
Ubiquitination (also known as ubiquitylation or ubiquitinylation) is an enzymatic post-translational modification in which a ubiquitin protein is attached to a substrate protein. This process most commonly binds the last amino acid of ubiquitin (glycine 76) to a lysine residue on the substrate.
The ubiquitin proteasome system
The ubiquitin-proteasome system mediates 80%-85% protein degradation in eukaryotes. In addition to being involved in protein degradation, ubiquitination is also involved in almost all life activities, including cell cycle regulation, proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, transcriptional regulation, gene expression, transcriptional regulation, signal transmission, injury repair, and inflammation immunity. Ubiquitination is associated with the pathogenesis of diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it has become a new target for new drug development.
